Supporting our local farmers and growers
Now, more than ever, we need to start showing support to our local growers and farmers. The unprecedented onslaught of Coronavirus, covid19, has upset the equilibrium of normal life, the world over. Forced to distance ourselves from others and to avoid large gatherings, shopping trips prove tricky and somewhat threatening. The abrupt closure of farmers markets all around the country is causing severe loss of income to many small producers. It’s time to pull together and find a new normal.
To help, we have compiled a list of our producers and supporters that offer solutions to these challenges. Whether it be delivery or farm gate collection we want you to remain safe and feel secure while food buying. Many of our member producers are based in the south east of Ireland, although they do stretch as far as east Galway. Some are already operating to capacity but here are a few that welcome new orders:

VEGETABLES

HOW: Collection via farm gate and local deliveries. This service will be contactless with ‘Knock and Drop’ delivery..
At present contents are set and a box is €20, delivery is free in Callan, €3 elsewhere.
Contents list will be on the website. Check FB for updates. For now, orders for Thursday 2nd April can be placed by email.

HOW: Veg box collection from Honesty box at Farm Gate. Cash payment on collection. Delivery option available for those vulnerable or in social isolation.

WHAT: Organic Salad Box: Weekly for 4 weeks you will get a mix of the following: Two bags of our Seasonal Salad Mix and two bunches of ‘greens’. This could be any of the following: Kale, Swiss Chard, Spinach or Beet leaves. 4 weeks of organic produce, 4 items per bag. €10 / week for a total of €40

WHAT: Chemical-free, home-grown vegetables
HOW: Box Scheme delivery to Wexford town, Enniscorthy, Bunclody, Gorey and Kilmuckridge. Weekly or annual subscription. Orders placed Thursday evening will be dispatched on Friday. Payment by C.O.D. or for annual members online payment via monthly invoice.

WHAT: A range of seaweed snacks selling online. Now offering re-fills for seaweed blends – more suitable for posting.
HOW: Payment is by Paypal on the website, although phone /cheque customers can also be accommodated.

WHO: Lough Mountain Farm, East GALWAY
WHAT: 10 kg box of Organic 100% grass fed and grass finished beef for €140. The box contains approx.: 3 kg of steaks (Rib-eye, Sirloin, Striploin and Round), 3kg of mince, 3kg of roasts and 1kg of stewing beef.
HOW: Deliveries nationwide using a next day courier. All products are shipped in temperature controlled cardboard boxes with a foil insulating layer. The cost of shipping is €12 per box. Local deliver in East Galway is free of charge.

HOMEMADE PRODUCE

WHO: maison djeribi, serving Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim
WHAT: sourdough breads, hand-kneaded slow-fermented and baked in a wood-fired oven, preserves, biscotti and French pâtisserie treats. Condiments and fermented foods are also a specialty: raw cultured organic vegetables such as sauerkrauts, kimchi, kvass and fermented harissa.
HOW: Selling over the weekend (either Sat or Sun) from the pale green shed in Lowe’s Yard, off Bridge Street, Carrick on Shannon. Please check Instagram page for latest opening times and other details.

NeighbourFood Online Markets – is there one in your area?
Several of our producers are involved in Neighbourfood markets around the country, while some supporters are operating as hosts. Check out the website to see who is selling what, where and to learn how the process works.
- Producer Future Orchard Cork sells via four Neighbourfood hubs around CORK CITY. Elaine is also open to bartering bottles of their delicious apple juice for produce.
- Supporter Fennelly’s of Callan is currently developing a hub at 11 Upper Bridge St, CALLAN, Co. Kilkenny so get in touch with Fennellys if you are interested in becoming a supplier, a customer or both!
- There is a new market hub now open in ENNISCORTHY, Co. Wexford which also has a pick up point in Gorey. SFP members Gorse Farm and Greenfields Farm are supplying produce through this market. Again, get in touch with via Neighbourfood if you are interested in buying or selling. Produce collections are on Thursdays.
- Coolanowle Organic Farm are hosting a Neighbourhood hub in their newly opened premises: Coolanowle Food Hall, 7-8 Dublin Street, CARLOW. Collection on Wednesday (17:00 to 19:00)
